Anyone else really terrible at years? Like I can’t remember how many years I’ve been married or when x event happened. I think it’s something to do with trauma?
@lancegregmason glad it’s not just me. I feel awful because my husband has a brilliant memory and I’m like ummmm well that happened sometime in *this* part of my life
@Kungfupussy lol in a way, I’m always forgetting how old I am. When asked sometimes I’ll say I think I’m 33, or 35. Been happening a lot the past few months. (I am 34, for the record lol)
@Rah514 I mess up my age too because I refuse to believe I’m as old as I am - 45. Old people are 45, I’m spending today getting my hair cut, listening to music and playing PS
@Kungfupussy pffft nah it’s all about how you personally feel. I’d like to think 45 is the new 35, ergo by those transitive properties, 34 is the new 24 😅
@Rah514 I like it
@Kungfupussy i've never been good with dates. i recall events and conversations quite clearly, but when? sometimes there's context that can help locate it somewhat. but ...
@Kungfupussy I have to do the math to determine my age & how long I've been sober. I'm attributing it to aging... lol
@Kungfupussy OMG yes. I can't place events in the proper order either. Like, was I working here when [thing] happened? When did I date so-and-so...?
@cunningpike right?! Mine is always did this happen when I:
lived in Australia
Lived in Japan
First marriage
After divorce
@Kungfupussy You've moved around about as much as I have! Ireland, then Canada, now the US (great timing!). Divorced and re-married, as well. I wonder is that part of it? Wildly different phases of our lives?
@cunningpike I think so
@Kungfupussy I have had very distinct sets of friends in each phase of my life, and very rarely if ever have they carried over.
@cunningpike me to. I’m so glad it’s not just me. I think part of the problem for me too is that I still feel like I don’t have a “home” so I feel like everything is temporary and can be taken away in an instant. Not great for anxiety, but I digress.
@Kungfupussy It's an weird feeling, isn't it? Someone asks "Where are you from?" and the answer is "It's complicated"... I have no regrets, though - everything brought me to where I am today.
@cunningpike me too. I have two close friends from high school but that’s about it
@Kungfupussy I've found that most friendships that are close are still situational. When the thing that keeps you close changes, you drift apart despite all intentions to the contrary.
Close social media connections have been different for me - they have tended to survive the transitions in my life.
That’s me!
In my case, it’s mostly coz I don’t plug my brain full of things that aren’t immediately important, that I don’t really care about, or that I can easily look up…
@Kungfupussy Yes. Months and days too.
