In 2022, the number of undocumented immigrants is estimated to be near 11M. Overall, a record 47.8 million immigrants lived in the U.S. in 2023. Trump plans to deport even those immigrants who are legal residents of the U.S. Removal of undocumented and legal immigrants from the U.S. will take years and will have severe impact on the economy as a whole.

@JV3MJD i would argue that, except for those descended from the Natives, everyone in North America is an immigrant of dubious standing. just because the first undocumented Europeans made laws about other European, African, Asian or Central/South Americans moving here doesn't make it more legitimate.

This delineation of “immigrant” is precisely the tool they want to rid themselves of any and all troublesome voices. It applies to virtually anyone they desire to ship out/jail/execute.
