Apologies if someone has asked this before, but ...
If you are going for a US Security clearance, don't they review your credit and bank statements? Ask if you have been accused of any felonies? Wouldn't that prevent someone from say said clearance?
Assuming the above, how in the Actual FUCK can someone be considered for say an extremely high position with said clearance level access?
@JGNWYRK They chek all of the above, but if the President's a traitor and overrules the DIA, there's not a lot you can do.
@JGNWYRK It just takes a President to waive such nuisance rules. Remember Jared Kushner?
@JGNWYRK they absolutely do (or--they were in the early aughts anyway when I had to apply for one).
The one exception I'm aware of is the office of president. The presumption is that anyone the american people saw fit to elect to that high office would be trustworthy. 🙄
@rpardee people en masse also thought it was cool to ingest tide pods, so not sure I would count on that.
Seems like a glaring loophole to me.
@JGNWYRK oh yeah. If the GOP is no longer willing or able to vet their candidates, then I think we are going to need legislation to require candidates to e.g., disclose their tax returns, amount of debt to foreign interests, truly divest from active business interests, etc.
Unfortunately the horse is already outside the barn at this point...
sadly when a poltiical party decides to not vet their presidential canidate for such things those requirements go out the window
the IC of the US refused to give Jared Kushner security clearance and only allowed it at the direction of his father in law
So much in our country was based on traditions and not actual laws. Which sucks when someone doesn't care about traditions.
@Kinnison or laws
point me to a law that a Presidential candidate needs to be able to pass a security check
@JGNWYRK When I was working for a high tech company we had purchased another company that had one of the best security groups in the business. All were former US Gov security from various agencies.
According to them you could have been convicted of any felony and still get the highest security clearance. As long as you completed your sentence, stayed clean, and reported reported regularly on virtually every aspect of your life. It is a huge pain to keep the clearance...
@JGNWYRK The president is not required to undergo a background check. Presumably, we all vote the right way after the press has throughly examined the candidate's background, association with criminals, past financial problems, affairs, etc.
@JGNWYRK
Remember hearing anything about Justice Kavanaugh background check before senate confirmation? Some checks are less effective than others.
@JGNWYRK If you or I go for a security clearance, those things happen, and if you fall short, you don't get the clearance. If I high elected official is involved, they have a harder time saying "no".
