Now I’m seeing stuff on Insta about flooding in Asheville & Hendersonville cuz Helene??! And Helene isn’t there yet??
@CinnamonGirlE hope you’re safe, glad @LnzyHou is in N NJ.
@InUnfunky @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou NC started getting the outer bands yesterday.
Asheville friends are in the thick of it. I’m scared to death for them. They have no preparation or knowledge of how to weather the storm. Expected 18” & 60 mph winds last night.
Bizarre path of Helene into mountains of western NC.
Please send prayers, intentions, healing, good juju—whatever you got! 🌀💦💨

Prayers, good vibes, power of the universe to all in the path of Helene 🌪️⛈️

I'm not near Asheville, but we were having street flooding yesterday, before Helene even made landfall. There's just been a whole lot of rain! I hope Asheville is OK. I get the sense that if people stay in and don't try to drive, everyone should hopefully be fine? The winds are dying down.

Good news. I’m sure people are in. Asheville shuts down airport, businesses & schools with 3” of snow. They have no severe weather skills.
I've been through two hurricanes, both on active duty and both while I was standing watch. The first was Gloria, when I was stationed in Massachusetts, and the second was Hugo, while I was stationed in Orlando. Hugo was especially nasty and one of my shipmates had a horrible time, because his family was in Puerto Rico, communications were down, and he had no idea if they were OK or not for several days.
