My health insurance co. suddenly decided that the name-brand Rx I've taken & they've covered for the last 6 years to manage my depression is too expensive & they aren't going to cover it anymore. They want me to switch to another med I've already taken & know doesn't work well for me, before they'll consider covering the usual one anymore. Capitalistic motherfuckers.

@Impious_Jade My suggestion for dealing with insurance companies (I used to do this for a living): Keep a detailed log of every communication you have with the company. Include dates, times, who you spoke with, their credentials and a brief synopsis of the communication. The insurance companies count on you giving up by making you jump thru hoops. They might ask the prescriber to do a peer to peer.

Don't give up (it's hard, most people don't have the time and energy. They want you to quit.) Make a formal complaint with your state's insurance commissioner. Complain to HR (if the insurance is through a employer and you feel OK with telling HR about this.

@TetsuKaba Excellent advice. In my youth I'd happily go head to head with an insurance co. & raise hell; it's definitely harder now that I'm older & more decrepit - as you say, they want you to give up.
