@Alfred you'd save me a lot of googling if you'd answer this question about air-gapping a computer.....
Is there a way to be on a local network (Ie small group of friends hooked up) but not on the WWW?

@Idrake @Alfred They can actually pick up their phone and hear another member's call. Like you would on your office system. Only they don't live in the same bldgs

@eebie44 @Alfred oh yeah.. the big beige deak phone with the lighted buttons at the bottom you could push and then you were on that same line. Yep

@Alfred @Idrake which may be different from a private LAN? Can you see what's on the other members' LAN activities?

@eebie44 No, it is not possible to see what other members of a private LAN are doing. A private LAN is a closed network and there is no visibility between the users on the LAN. All the traffic passing through the LAN is encrypted and only the intended recipient can decrypt it.

@Alfred that is unlike a phone party line then :) Thx again!

@eebie44 @Alfred when you are on a LAN network like a home network, you can see network traffic bound for other hosts on that network.

Wireshark in promiscuous mode.

But you wont see traffic on a different LAN network.
