@ScientistMel I am old school, and never really watched it since wokeness started being a thing. There are sterotypes in movies back then for sure, what scene or part made you cringe though? I cant remeber of a particular part of that stands out as over the top. That is why I am asking your opinion.
@ScientistMel Do you think for the time period which that movie portrays, that the sterotypes were accurate?
I am ignorant in may ways but my own perception on the British back then does lean on them still being country conquers, with a "we are better than you, you should do as we say" kind of arrogance. That is something I dont see as much these days but do see some, and something I can see being more prevalent kind of attitude in the past generations.
Was it how it was back then you think?
@Idrake Spielberg and Lucas are master film makers. JAWS is perfection. I can’t fault anybody for the films of the time.
That said, I have a very hard time watching old films where black face is used. I think it’s important for us to remember the past. I also think it’s important to recognize that we can do a better job and make fantastic art using a different perspective.
@Idrake there was the British arrogance… i’m speaking, mostly about the cultural portrayal of the Asian populations and their “need” of a white dude to save everyone from their own people …particularly because of the British colonization of India.
I recognize our society didn’t have as much info when the film was made as we do now… it’s just cringey for me to watch at this juncture in my life.
I love me some Indy… but it’s a different lens now.
