I've been sending this to all of my Asian friends this morning, and telling them that unless they send me a comically large amount of money (I'm obviously joking), I'm sending this to their parents.
Their responses have been half terror and half humor and I'm expecting to be stabbed in my sleep in retaliation. ๐คฃ
@Hobyrim
I had a "genius" friend at CU Boulder, 1978-79; when I heard about his father, it seemed on-point:
Steve's dad had been a 20-year Naval Engineer, and developed the "phase lock loop" technology that became part of hi-fidelity stereo radio marketing; he'd retired, done Med School and was Chief Surgeon at a San Diego hospital.
Steve added that "Dad's bored, he's going to Law School at night..."
Sadly, never met Dad, and lost contact...
@zenmudprod holy cow. I used to do RF work and PLL is like super ridiculous useful/black magic level shit to think up and develop.
That's crazy.
@Hobyrim
Steve could "improv" on Keith Emerson(!!): he was a wicked keyboardsman...

@Hobyrim
His last name was "Beary" (pronounced "Beer-y"); I'd presume he shared Dad's name...
Imagine being friends with that guy in high school and then going, hey I wonder what Jonny is up to
"Hey Jonny, bro, what's good?!?! It's been for ever man how you been? Man I'm killing it, life is good, I just go promoted to store manag..., wait you what? Like wait what?
What?
Man come on this ain't fair!"
