Basically, it gives the government the power to decide what content is "inappropriate or objectionable" and remove it from social media.
And it requires you to submit your government ID to have a SocMed account. This should be ESPECIALLY concerning to @th3j35t3r but it should seriously worry EVERYONE.
It's one step from a government approval before you post system.
What's mind-boggling is that it has DEMOCRATS' approval in Congress as well, including Elizabeth Warren. WTAF?

Wow!
'Land of FreeDUMB' is likely more accurate.
I can't actually find those powers or requirements in the bill linked to. Even the words quoted ("inappropriate or objectionable") do not seem to appear.
Can you cite the exact wording that you are paraphrasing?
@DavidSalo @Heucuva8 @th3j35t3r The entire bill has been crossed out, it seems, indicating it died in committee without receiving a formal vote. Much ado about nothing, for now.
Of course, this doesn't mean it can't be tweaked and resubmitted at some future time, but, as of now, it's dead and not worth losing sleep over.
@POOetryma @Heucuva8 @th3j35t3r
There's a revised version of the bill (in italics, not struck out) about halfway down. The current status seems to be that it was put on the legislative calendar on 12/13/23.
The crossed out portions are the parts of the bill that didn't change with the most recent iteration. I'm going to be busy today, but I will try to provide more information as I have time. Here is the update that's causing the most problems, from what I can tell.

@DavidSalo @Heucuva8 @th3j35t3r I'll check it out shortly. Thanks. ππ
This means that if Congress decides it's not appropriate for people to read about the Trail of Tears, or factual history of Black Slavery in the US, or that LGBTQ people EXIST, they can just scrub it from social media and determine who can/cannot have an account because they've posted too much objectionable content. This is the kind of thing I'd expect from North Korea, not here in a country that claims to be the "Land of Freedom".
