@Graci I find this shocking and horrifying. We are being targeted not just because we are convenient enemies but we lack the numbers and therefore political power to pose a significant threat.

This is how genocidal campaigns against minorities start. These are the seeds that blossom into death camps.

Jewish people were declared obscene, as were LGBT people in Germany. They lost rights, then they were registered and forced into ghettos, until finally the death camps.

@Graci These things frighten me terribly, it's offensive and, perhaps ironically, obscene. There is that initial surge of anger, which I think is natural, but more I am mystified.

I know there are many reasons why I would be seen as freakish and strange to people that are normal. That's not me degrading myself, it's just facts. I am very open about who I am and how I identify. I'm even unusual for LGBT spaces.

But there is nothing harmful or obscene about me. I'm just different.

@Vozy @Graci

We need more people like you in the world. I remember one of our first conversations, where you were describing your initial reactions "Yeah she's out there... but"

You did not judge me solely on my differences, and you did not see it as a reason for fear, but instead, curiosity

"The glory of creation is in its infinite diversity." Roddenberry said that, the creator of Star Trek

It's a hopeful vision. That all the difference in ourselves and those we meet make us stronger

@NiveusLepus @Graci I wouldn’t call those people normal, just common or typical. I know you know you’re normal too.

@sfleetucker @Graci I don't know about that, but I appreciate you saying so.

I've spent my entire life trying to understand and be myself, and that's resulted in me being different from those around me, but the struggle to realize it, understand, and live that truth has given me an appreciation for those elements that make others unique, and all the many ways that life and thinking manifests

Even these people that hate me. They all have the seeds of the sacred and beautiful within themselves.

@NiveusLepus @Graci . It's pretty obvious that the GOP is taking the country in the same direction here. It needs to be stopped.

@NiveusLepus @Graci It's important to note, I think, that we're already going down the "registered" pipeline, between DeWine's proposed regulations that would require tracking all gender dysphoria diagnoses and treatment plans and Florida's gender affidavits.

The rhetoric used against us is basically identical to that used against gay people in the 70s-90s, but this time, the wingnuts are completely divorced from any kind of democratic norms to restrain their genocidal impulses.

@Graci Republicans have cornered the market on obscene

@Graci

If they succeed, you know damn well they won't stop there.

😕

@grayman Unless it is a catastrophic fail, they won't stop. Even if they lose this attempt, they will figure out what they think went wrong and move to the next state.

@Graci

'One forces mental health professionals to “cure” transgender people from their gender identity...'

The "cure" - so to speak, or "treatment" - is to treat them like they're, ya know, actual friggin humans, and to let them transition if they wish, and to not add to their mental health burden, which is already mostly due to societal pressures, with this added layer of BULLSHIT.
