A clever way to be cruel they think?
@CinnamonGirlE @ExecutiveFunction404 How much money are cities spending on anti-homeless devices or measures like this bench? I sure don't have the answers, but I think the money could be better spent on tiny houses? Hostels? Dorms? I don't know. And I get it that people don't want homeless living next door. Some of those folks are scary and dangerous, but all of them aren't.
@GeezerWench @ExecutiveFunction404
I know they are. And I can certainly understand it as well. But cruelty never was an answer, even though some people seem to have it set as their default.
@ExecutiveFunction404 Right? Besides, if somebody is in a wheel chair, because of the handles on the back, they'll be sitting practically in front of anyone sitting on the bench. Unless they park themselves face first into the bench.
This bench is stupid and mean.
I forgot about the handles - apparently they did too, which just goes to show that it wasn't done through anyone with knowledge of the ADA. Which is questionable, as I've worked in construction and every step of the way is planned, approved by the building department, inspected, etc.
Wow, it's even worse than I originally imagined, bc the hoops they must have had to jump through to bypass the ADA would have accounted for much higher costs and more work 🤦♀️
@GeezerWench
Seriously, why would they need to carve out the bench when there's two spots to park on the side and several in front?
