Went to the store today and saw: beef loin flank steak product of Australia. $7.99 a pound.
Had previously seen #beef from #Australia, but assumed it was a one-off. Like, why would they ship it over 10k miles, pay the taxes, tariffs, whatever, and have it end up in lil" ol' #DeltaCardiff? And then, is #Australianbeef so cheap that it can go thru all that and still sell for ONLY $7.99 a lb? What's up with that? I know damn well they grow cows right here in PA.
I just do not understand this.
@vozoto That sounds like a good price.
I only ever buy ribs on sale.
It boggles my mind that a hunk of meat from Austtalia, with all the refrigeration and shipping, can cost so little, compared to what (alleged) USA beef costs. At the one store, ground beef (mince, I think) 93% lean is $5.69 per pound. At the other store, it's $6.49 a pound.
They're not shipping it 10,000 miles!
