Today's random question: popcorn or candy at the movie theater?

@GaryPoole your dentist’s boat payment is counting on it.

@GaryPoole On average, the profit margin for fresh movie theater popcorn can be upward to 80 percent. This is massive, especially considering the markup (see: how to calculate markup). It's not uncommon to sell popcorn at a markup of a whopping 1,275 percent.

@dauphin87 that's because just about the only revenue movie theaters make is from concessions, not ticket sales. And movie theater popcorn just tastes better, like hot dogs taste better at a baseball game.

@GaryPoole I worked part-time at a movie theater in 2012 after I sold my business. I had and still do have an online job, but I was bored only working 20 hours a week. working at Regal Theater was quite an experience.

@dauphin87 @GaryPoole

I had crazy second jobs like that too. The best/memorable experiences.

No regrets

@GaryPoole @dauphin87 And it looks like, when projectors switched to the much-cheaper LED kind, instead of theaters being able to keep expenses low, the studios and distributors just jacked up the cost of leasing the movies even higher.
