Today's random question: What was the best invention of the last 50 years?

I would have to say the internet as a whole with mobile communication devices a close second. Both were absolute game changers.

@GaryPoole
ARPAnet, the precursor to the internet, was created in 1969. That makes it more than 50 years old. So technically that falls outside of your windows.

Because I'm a NERD.

@ArcturusSaDiablo Technically, the ARPAnet was a precursor to the Internet. My dad was with IBM back in the '60s and '70s when both were being developed. I even had an Arparnet electronic mail address when I was 12 (back before they called it "email"), thanks to Dad. I'm an old school nerd. 😜

@GaryPoole
Uh huh. Had one connected to a TTY at school. My first taste of programming in BASIC.

@ArcturusSaDiablo BASIC, Fortran IV, COBOL (which I'm still convinced stood for "Compiles Only Because Of Luck:)". Kids these days with their Object Oriented coding don't know the real struggle.

@GaryPoole
FORTRAN, COBOL, and PL/1 were how I helped save the world from the Y2K bug (you're welcome). People never realized that their modern computers had such volatile beginnings.
