Another day, another computer crash at work. Luckily I was able to reboot that particular system and we are back in action, but what an annoying way to start the day.

I need coffee. Good morning,

Without getting overly technical (which is boring), the computer in question is where the commercials are stored.

And when I was rebooting it (it was frozen like a popsicle), I noticed it was still running ... (deep breath) ... WindowsXP.

Really?

REALLY?

Our IT people have some 'splaining to do.

@GaryPoole

So, there is hope?

Maybe some of those unnamed major media outlets are doing the same thing. 🤣

P.S. sorry for the bad start to Friday eve.

@GaryPoole
Odds are the actual software running the program will only operate at that level because the support contract was never renewed. Station would rather risk the old machine and keep taking the revenue vs investing in the correct technology.

@pendrag I think one of the most powerful forces in the universe is inertia. "If it ain't broke, don't update it." 🤨

@GaryPoole
Or, in the case of one site; they customized the original software so much that the original creators of it could not provide any update support. And then... the team that was involved in the customization was fired or transferred away. So, this program is running on hopes and dreams now, because once it crashes, it is gone.

@GaryPoole
This is the sort of thing I see all the time. Part of it, like others have said, is that the software running is out of support and there just isn't the budget to deploy a new system. Between hardware, software, and labor, it's quite a lot of money.

@GaryPoole

Ugh: hate when that happens.

Good morning!
