So Elmo just broke Tweedeck, apparently. Our corporate account was logged out and "reset" everything, losing all of our settings in the process.
Does he just not want anyone to use Twitter anymore? Because I'd be just fine with that. Our radio stations get FAR more engagement from Facebook than Twitter these days. I doubt we'd even miss it.
@GaryPoole Who is ELMO? EL-on MU-sk?
@enstrophy I'm not even sure when people started calling him Elmo, but it kinda stuck and I do it nowadays without even thinking about it.
@GaryPoole EM killed Twitter and the freedom he and his followers were saying he would provide...Seriously, old Twitter banned Trump and people, but seeing people inert under the menace of limited readings and posts per day was hilarious!
@GaryPoole Reddit has also made a cash grab with API access. They basically followed the twitter playbook while also going IPO or something.
Pretty sure the two sites are cut from the same greed cloth.
@GaryPoole I absolutely think he’s trying to break it. Partly because he’s a crappy person, but partly because he got funding to purchase from certain autocratic nations that didn’t like it AT ALL when twitter was used to organize the effective protest actions of the “Arab Spring” — and see it as a natsec issue to get rid of that source of problems for them. So. 🤷♀️
Followup: Our IT people reached out to Twitter and were told that TweetDeck is now only for "verified users" (meaning paid users).
Ownership here has already decided they have better things to do with our money than give it to Elmo.
They're also doing some number crunching over the past six months of data to see if we even need to use Twitter at all for any of our stations.
Summary: Elmo makes another cash grab that just alienates potential customers.
