These protests in China remind me of Tiananmen Square. Let's hope they end differently. I would love to say that the world won't let them get away with this again, but after how well they've erased the memory of Tiananmen Square and pushed aside the atrocities committed against the Uyghurs, I have little faith.

@Gambit_1 these protests are in response to that fire in Urumqi where firefighters couldn't get people out of the building b/c of covid restrictions. Urumqi is in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. The protests can be seen, in part, as the Chinese people resisting the CCP's treatment of the Uyghurs.

@Gambit_1 I remember listening to shortwave radio when Tiananmen Square protests happened. Even some of the presenters on China's official radio station were saying things covertly in support of the protesters. But the state rolled over all of it. When I was in China 10 years later, people still quietly talked about it.
