SCOTUS decisions don't bode well for the future of our democracy. It may be the blue states that secede at this point.

@FireMonkey I need help getting to a blue state, so I hope they'll have some sort of refugee program....

@FireMonkey out of curiosity, & forgive my ignorance, but can states secede legally?

i mean, i know y'all fought a war over that the last time some tried.

but, in 🇨🇦 for instance, we have a province or two that, from time to time, want to 'separate'. we have referendums on this shit. hasn't happened so far - being a part of 🇨🇦 is better than going it alone.

but they could do it legally - it wouldn't trigger a war. they would have to hammer out an agreement w/ them no longer being a part of 🇨🇦.

@singlemaltgirl

Short answer, no states cannot secede from the republic, to paraphrase Franklin, if we can keep it.

Long answer - This is the destabilization that Russia has been working towards for the last 20 years or more. We are going to be in a period of soft Civil War, sometimes hot.

Democrats in power need to start acting like it.

@FireMonkey thank you. altho what is or is not constitutional...seems up to a kangaroo court these days. oops, i meant SCOTUS.

i just did a quick skim - there's been a lot written lately b/c of texas so there's a bit of analysis. long precedent b/c of texas v white (1869). but honestly, long held precedent doesn't seem to matter much right now. SCOTUS is re-writing the terms of the constitution, it seems.

i guess it would depend on if it was a red or blue state that wanted to secede.
