Happy caturday 🐈 🌲guess it rained overnight. We have a day full of every type of weather.

I spoke to the fiber folks yesterday the price to get the lines up here is still 645 or so. Seems nuts to bring it up an unused very long road on the property. For some reason the elec company thought to do this years ago. Not sure if they can bring it in another way to save a little $$ might require too much site work.

My other option is starlink for 299 but I honestly cannot stand musk ugh.

@KazzyH Sounds similar to us. We live about 700ft off a main road (50mph), down a dirt driveway. Comcast in the main rd. Wanted over $10k to run it the 700ft down our driveway. We told them to kick rocks.

I have Starlink. I hate Musk. I love my Starlink. It has been a game changer for us. As shitty as Musk is, Starlink is a TERRIFIC service and I have nothing but good things to say about it!

@Evereigh

The first 500' is free..then it's like a dollar a foot. The unused road they want to utilize is where our elec wires start ( ridiculous ) so I understand no site work would be needed. We've lost the wires many times before, like every other year. Why the elec company hasn't moved them is beyond my comprehension.

Musk is such a garbage person 🤢🤬 Why can't someone else own it?

Amazon will offer a similar service in 2026 for less.

Guess I'll wait and see what the fiber co says.

@KazzyH We were stuck with DSL speeds. 10mb down, 1mb up. Then the pandemic hit and I had 3 kids at home, doing homeschooling though Zoom, for 18 months. It was awful!! We finally got Starlink in 2022, after being on the wait list/beta list for years. It's made such a difference in our QoL at home, which sounds....Silly, but good internet has become a staple in everyone's daily lives, just like the need for power.

@Evereigh

Do you get high winds? I'm thinking of the elements here starlink says it works in inclement weather. We sometimes get feet of snow too. A microburst took down everything on that road in 2016, poles, trees, wires. Why oh why did they rewire there. Ughhh.

@KazzyH I think the highest wind we get, is in the 30-40mph range. So, not really. It's been knocked cattywampus once in the wind, where it disrupted service. We have it on the roof. The dishes detect snow and will warm up when needed, to keep the snow off, which is nice. Other than when there's a global outage, we don't really have issues with it. Runs smoothly!
