I don't know who needs to hear this, but an apology generally starts with, "I'm sorry," and is negated by a "but."

@EdgeOErin If I really think I was justified in doing whatever it was, I use an _and_ in my apology, not a "but".

As in "Yes, I punched you in the stomach, and here is why...."
