I value bees, frogs, deer, red-tail hawks, and dolphins (etc.) as much as people.
That doesn't mean I don't love humanity, because I do, but I know enough to know that without an exquisite ecological tapestry and vibrant web of life, we - as people - are diminished and in peril.
