What is the closest you have ever come to death?

As passenger was hit on passenger side at 60 mph on black ice. Fire Dept had to use Jaws of Life to get me out. As they were working on it, another car slid into the back end hitting us again. The firemen saw it coming jumped away & screamed for me to relax my body. Driver walked away.
Took three months to learn to walk again in glass-walled swimming pool.
Months later fireman called me when he found my phone # in his jacket pocket. He expected I hadn’t made it.
@LnzyHou OMG that's awful
@LnzyHou @CriticalCupcake
Wow Linds. I didn't know that 😳
@CinnamonGirlE @CriticalCupcake
One of several.
@LnzyHou @CriticalCupcake
I think I have heard another one of your stories, but not that one.
@CinnamonGirlE @CriticalCupcake
Snowmobile accident broke five bones in ravine.
@LnzyHou @CriticalCupcake
I think I heard that story. You too have had some close calls. I wrecked a four wheeler in the desert once, but walked away.
@LnzyHou @CriticalCupcake wow. Glad you are here to tell that (harrowing) tale.
Me too.
Wow- you have amazing angels!!
I really do.
@CriticalCupcake my appendix went kaplooie. Perforated. .
@CriticalCupcake
At <100' above the ground on final approach in my glider, the 25+ mph headwind just stopped. That reduced my airspeed to less than stall speed. I entered the classic stall spin.
Hardest thing I ever did was pushing the stick forward
The glider started flying 15' above the ground and I rounded out and landed
I always carry extra airspeed now
@BrentSullivan @CriticalCupcake
How do you carry extra airspeed?
@WatchLover679 @CriticalCupcake
Just a pilot's way of saying "go faster"
Thanks for your interest!
@BrentSullivan @CriticalCupcake oh I thought there was some additional equipment you added to get that glider to not stall.
Complex oral surgery many years ago. It took four tries to get me back from the anaesthetic. I still have the occasional nightmare about it - no visual, just black with nurses talking over me.
@CriticalCupcake 13 major kidney surgery, needed to be resuscitated on the operating table. 21 riding my bicycle down steep street in the rain at night - had a headlight on - drunk pulled out of a side street without looking I t-boned her car and luckily I slid over the roof. '81 wiped out my motorcycle on a corner and slid head first into a giant rockface otherwise it would have been a long drop into the pacific, '98 black ice sent me over a steep 80 ft embankment into side of creek
@NorthernInvader @CriticalCupcake
Wow. Lucky to be here. 😳
I've been very lucky. '58-59 (I was 10 or 11) coming back from visiting grandparents in MB our little trailer hit a soft shoulder just outside of Libby MO and rolled our 55 Plymouth down a rock slope that ended in a swamp. I was lucky- I was in the front seat between my parents. My dad broke his back, my mom was black and blue, my older brother was thrown out the back window (IIRC about 100 stitches), I was OK- I scrambled up the rocks to the road and flagged help
The corner we lost it on was appropriately named Dead Man's Curve :) I had to laugh when we received a bill for the ambulance - apparently at that time it was both the town's ambulance and hearse - my mom was horrified when she learned that :)
@NorthernInvader @CriticalCupcake
Are you sure you aren’t a cat?
@LnzyHou not sure I want to test that anymore 🤣
@CriticalCupcake
I was under the truck working on brake pads when the phone rang. I scooted out from under it a second before it fell off the jack.
Holy crap
@Sr0bi @CriticalCupcake
Telemarketing? 😆
@CriticalCupcake It was the year 2000, and I had just left the Brickyard 400 race that I attended with my brother. I was staying at his place at the time which was just north of Indianapolis. It had started to rain the last few minutes of the race, so the roads were starting to get a little slick. I was driving a 1989 GMC S15 pickup truck with tires that had little tread left, but still suitable for the road. I was heading home to deposit some checks and to hang out with my friends. Cont.
@CriticalCupcake I was approaching a curve with a speed limit posted 35 mph, and I was currently traveling at 50 mph. I thought nothing of this, as I had taken this curve many times before without issue. As I hit the apex of the corner, my backend kicks out. I've experienced this before, and assumed I could control it. I let off the gas and counter steered, but the back end kicks out the opposite direction. I enter a fish tail, and then violently spin off the road into a tree. Cont.
@CriticalCupcake The passenger side of the truck hits the tree on the opposite side of the road, so now I'm facing the wrong direction. The truck hit the tree so hard that the glove box was repositioned over the stick shift. The glass shattered all over me, and I emerge from the truck with bloody knuckles. Otherwise I'm OK, but the truck is totaled. Had I hit driver side first, I wouldn't be here today. I'd have become part of the tree with how hard I hit it.
@CriticalCupcake Almost drowned in Acapulco, when I was 12. Slid on an oil slck while on a suzuki 90, went down, found myself under a truck w/ tire a few inches away. Of course at my age, I am probably closest to death now 😁
@CriticalCupcake I died. I've done it a few times now. I can't say I'd recommend it, though there are perks.
Just _watch_ those bill collectors try to find me!
"Sorry, you'll have to hike in the mountains, where we scattered the ashes!"
@CriticalCupcake I’ve almost died numerous times. Viral pneumonia, bad teeth, childbirth, and once I fell asleep with food in my mouth and choked.
