Governors know how to behave.
Whitmer out of the Veepstakes - and endorses Kamala.
"I am not leaving Michigan. I am proud to be the governor of Michigan. I have been consistent ... I am not going anywhere."
Have now endorsed Harris:
-Whitmer
-Newsom
-Buttigieg
-Shapiro
-Kelly
-Pritzker
-Beshear
-Polis
-Moore
-Cooper
The sitting governors have pretty much taken a step back in the veepstakes.
None will ever rank as highly as Buttigieg and Kelly in national name recognition other than maybe Newsom and Whitmer.
Pete puts gay marriage on the table, Kelly puts gun control out there.
Both planks in the Democratic platform, but also hot buttons for voters. See Beto.
Interesting times. Still. Dammit.
Oh, I forgot to cover what this means.
It means that EVERY name mentioned as a potential top of the ticket over Harris has endorsed.
Every single one. There is no open convention since they would need to convince 300 delegates to contest.
It's over for the fantasy teams of GOP adjacent white guys and actual Republicans for a "unity ticket".
And no, no one wants Manchin. He can't beat a bulldog.
@Cosmichomicide No, we need him here, thank you.
Yeah, people should keep their good governors. Only reason I'm offering up Roy is he's term limited.
Also, zero chance for Pritzker - like hard to be the party of the people with the Hyatt billionaire in the house. Even though I love that guy.
@Cosmichomicide I’d be good with Roy, and, yeah, Pritzker would be good, but he would seem a bit out of touch to many.
Whenever I see Pritzker, I immediately think of him catching and downing the jello shot during the Pride parade. 🥃
@Cosmichomicide @NotoriousEPS That's why I kind of want to keep Shapiro in Pa. right now.
@ThrasherPrime @Cosmichomicide I’d like to see Booker or Kelly, but they’d have to replaced via special election. Mayor Pete, on the other hand, can be replaced by Presidential appointment…
@Cosmichomicide There is not a single MAGA politician who would with either that much honesty or humor.
Oh and Whitmer is a rock star. She will be in the White House, just not now. She's got that thing Obama had and it won't be denied.
She also knows that two women in their 50s from blue states (Michigan clearly learned it's lesson in '16) isn't of benefit to the party. And she's another solid party Dem governor.
