Well, my first project ever just failed. And I'm leaving on vacation a day early (I've got snot loads of time), having cancelled all the meetings I was going to drop in on and answer any questions.

Me: Hi, sorry I need to escalate. We have a jr dev refusing to provide the access we require for the project.

ED (Exec. Dir.): They have our full support. They think we need to establish a data review committee to determine what fields we can allow.

Me: OK, I'll cancel the project and...

Call a post mortem so we can review the reasons the project has failed on the same roadblocks twice.

ED: No one said to cancel.

Me: Funding runs out in 5 weeks. The part that you are creating working groups and committees for is 2-3 weeks out of total effort, with most of it coming after the easy part. We are 6 weeks of SMEs unable to answer the integrator's basic questions without a meeting.

ED: I never said to cancel.

Me: No, but you killed it just the same.

🤷

@Cosmichomicide “yes you did. You just didn’t use the word “cancel””

@MookyTroubadour

I'm putting together a report showing that, since the new 5 year contract was signed and the project was started, about $125K has been spent with zero to show for it due to gatekeeping without authority.

They are obligated to pay that (whether they use it or not) unless they would like to renegotiate at a 5% uplift.

Oh well. I've got a week of annual leave and no longer need to say I'll be checking emails for emergencies. 🤷
