Oh yeah - but I clean all my "fingers" electronics at least weekly - phone, keyboard, mouse and Fitbit .
You are clearly a better person than am I.
Do you have a keyboard that is separate from your computer?
OK, so I have 3 keyboards, not including the one I never use on the laptop. Every week they get a superficial cleaning, periodically I pull their little caps off and give them the deep cleaning love and attention they deserve.
@Cosmichomicide
I often do a
- Shake
- Shake
- Shake
and marvel at how much falls out.
When I post that recommendations to my FB friends I get a lot of disgusted reactions from those that do it.
My keyboard ritual is the traditional shake, followed by the old school compressed air (though I have a gun for that and not the disposable cans), followed by slime/goo. If anything seems like it's not responsive, I pull the key and clean or replace the switch and/or cap entirely.
And yes, folks need to clean their keyboards just to get an idea of how EWWWWW things can be.
Keep in mind that these are my occupational tools (keyboards, mice).
And no, I do not use a KVM. More trouble than it is worth if you have the space to dedicate.
@Cosmichomicide
I'm on my 4th kvm.
I've got a remote velcroed to the edge of my desk that has a line-of-sight to the KVM mounted on the underside of my wall cabinets. I'm switching all day long.
I'll be designing a keyboard tray that fits under the desk when not using the computer. Then positioned for sitting. Then positioned for standing.
The tray will be a mesh so that all disgusting stuff falls through it continuously.
Yeah, switching drives me batty. I'm remote, so everything has it's own stuff and I just swivel or turn (variable standing desk).
Every few years, I get a wild hair to try a KVM again and within a day I'm cranky at the extra step.
@Cosmichomicide
It wasn't the band. I just installed a new, metal one.
There is a lot of room for "stuff" to collect on the device itself.
