@poemblaze They should have taken the take-private offer.

@poemblaze It's too bad they're going under. I really liked their service.
@Coctaanatis For all Ancestry's service issues, they give a lot of tools to mark each match as belonging to a certain branch.
@poemblaze My sister used Ancestry's services, but she was interested in seeing if we have other close relatives. She didn't find any new ones.
@Coctaanatis It's all based on who happens to get tested. May be great for one person and a zero for another.
@Coctaanatis Health claims for DNA are oversold. Unless it's a disease that happens to be associated with one specific gene, the most they can tell you is if you have more markers that increase the chance of a disease instead of markers that decrease the chance.
@poemblaze Well, yes, although there are alleles closely associated with cancer or other genetic diseases. Likewise, your likelihood of developing Alzheimer's is closely associated with which version of the APOE allele you have.
@Coctaanatis Both my parents had dementia. All mom's siblings did to one degree or another. Mom's dad died young, but her paternal grandfather had it. I may take up hang gliding.
@poemblaze Haven't done that, but it looks like fun. Likewise ultralights.
@Coctaanatis Or something more dangerous that would take me before dementia.
@poemblaze I suppose that's an option, but not one I'd be inclined to take.
@Coctaanatis Me neither, really. I will try my best to take what comes my way.
@Coctaanatis What did you especially like about 23andMe?
@poemblaze Mostly, I like the health information.
@Coctaanatis I did a lot better with AncestryDNA in finding relatives and further back ancestors. Other than two very close relatives I hadn't known about who used 23andMe.
