For those who use the Metro in DC, be advised that reduced service is being reduced even more due to lapsed certification of train operators. Yellow and green lines will be reduced to 20 minutes between trains.

This is in addition to reduced service and train size because of ongoing problems with the 7000 series cars that have been removed from service due to their propensity to derail.

@Coctaanatis What the hell?

How can the operators just "lapse?"

I lived in DC during my formative years. The metro was HEAVILY used even then, and very new itself. I don't understand how it fell into disrepair and now experiences this lack of operators.

I mean, if it were SICK operators due to Covid, I'd understand. But just operators not bothering to keep their accreditation up?

There must be a bigger story behind this.

@BlueStateBabe No explanation has been provided, but the recertification process may have been curtailed during the pandemic. And, yeah, as a regular Metro rider, the gradual decline of the service has been apparent, but it's still pretty nice compared to what I used to experience in NYC.
