I went out last night, and people had Christmas lights and trees up everywhere. I guess everyone is ready to try and feel a little happiness. I put some Christmas stuff out yesterday also.
@BillieBun
I am celebrating it as a family time with focus on family, times spent with them celebrating. More of a secular family celebration in my life now. And I am going to try and continue to look for any ways to celebrate and be happy. If not, they win.
@CinnamonGirlE Who wins, and what do they win?
@BillieBun
MAGA wins when they find ways to siphon off our ability to live.
@CinnamonGirlE They win Christmas then? Sorry - not trying to be mean to you, just terrified and angry at what's coming.
@BillieBun
I am so angry as well. I guess I just don't want them to have a single moment of happiness through liberal tears. I know it's not irrational.
@CinnamonGirlE @BillieBun
MAGAs do love them some liberal tears. Any kind of tears, really. If people rejoice in your misery, deny them that!
@janallmac @BillieBun
This!!
@janallmac @CinnamonGirlE How does anyone know if I'm putting out decorations and buying presents?
@BillieBun @janallmac
It's not about what they know. It's about what "we" know and do.
@BillieBun @CinnamonGirlE
You know where and how and with whom you can find joy. Decorations are absolute joy for many people (present company included) but that doesn't have to be your joy. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks about how happy you are, that's beside the point. Obnoxious displays of happiness are fun, but not at all necessary.
@CinnamonGirlE I guess you're being as rational as anyone. I just don't think I can afford a $$ Christmas.
@BillieBun oh, no big money, I stopped that a few years ago. That's part of what's wrong with it.
@BillieBun me neither @CinnamonGirlE
@BillieBun I hear you. I'll be spending the day with Eleanor and my Mum. It'll be quiet and I will not be spending money I can not afford to please the retail giants.
@CinnamonGirlE
@stueytheround @BillieBun
The main thing is to spend time with family in love. Not money, not presents.
@BillieBun @CinnamonGirlE same. Last year I started just giving my kids cash. I did buy each of them a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans and a book so they each had something to open. I got us tickets to see a Christmas concert together as a family at the PAC in December. I want to focus on spending time together vs “getting stuff”.
@AverageCitizen @BillieBun
Exxaaacccttly! I will give some cash because I have grown kids and almost grown grands. So both some little things to open and cash for these hard times. And craft nights, making cookies, family time. This is the way
@CinnamonGirlE These days I see Christmas as a corporate money making festival, as people are encouraged to spend, spend spend. It is almost a duty for people to spend lots of money for gifts. I'm not joining in, as that doesn't make me very happy.
