When people say “keeping cats inside is cruel” they don’t stop to think of the differences in location and situation.

We have a lot of outdoor critters here, most of them native and at least one is very dangerous to domestic animals and small children. I’ve seen one run up my street at a trot, bold as brass looking for the hot lunch line. I was so shocked. I told my mom to stay in the car until I saw it disappear around the corner because who knows what a hungry coyote will do. As my friend

Our cats have always been indoor cats. At one time I was the manager of a vet clinic and I saw the outdoor cats when they were brought in.

The details of what these poor creatures had suffered were the stuff of nightmares.

I don't lecture people who choose to let cats roam and I appreciate not being urged to do so myself
