Huh. These days, websites usually ask straightforwardly for the number if they want it. And they really can't just record it because the phone number itself isn't even used in connecting.
Someone gave them your number. If you didn't, perhaps some organization/website you shared it with did.
ActBlue likely source. I make several monthly contributions through them. Going to ask them.
I bet that's it. One thing to consider is maybe they did not share your number. They could be sending the texts in his name. It's very common among political groups.
Timing is bizarre. Unless they know he is NOT VP candidate.
Well he has really good name recognition right now. I imagine a lot of causes would be thrilled if he allowed them to use it
I get donation requests from all over. Once you're tagged as a giver, all hands are out looking to be filled.

I suspect they just take a chance and don't really look all that closely at your giving habits.

Why would gov of PA be asking me in NC for funds to provide programs in PA?
