We have 2 rescue beagles. They settled in pretty nicely and we love them madly, but they were raised in a home where they ran free all day. YIKES! We have a fenced yard with a locked gate, but I have no illusions that they wouldn't take the first opportunity to follow a scent until they have no idea where they are or how they got there.
If they were your dogs, how much would you pay monthly for GPS fees on these furry miscreants?
TYVM!
@Loffreni Thx! I know I'm a worrier but a few years ago, some jerk opened our gate and let out the dogs we had then. I was lucky a neighbor called us (phone number on tags) but they had crossed a busy street by then. Heart attack!
@BrazenlyLiberal Maybe get some AirTags? But they will only help if they stray, not if someone steals them, so don't leave them outside unsupervised. Beagles are the best! So glad you have two, they need a pack mate. Chip them as well. Now, we want pictures of the cuteness!
@Colleenchristine They are chipped. Given our setup, it would be hard to steal them - and really not worth it in a neighborhood where everyone has a couple of dogs. I worry someone will unthinkingly leave the gate open.
@Colleenchristine They are mother and son. The one in my profile pic is the mom and this is her goofball son
@BrazenlyLiberal I chose whatever it takes. But I'd also consult local professional dog trainers for their advice.
We have a cheagle (chihuahua beagle) and she fully embraces her beagle heritage lol. Nose down, tail up, every minute outside is a sniffari on every blade of grass.
Good luck!
@JimmySheridanNV Ah. So you know! The fee for the trackers we got is $11 per dog per month. Not a lot compared to other dog-related costs, but I didn't know if it's generally in line with how much it should cost. Thx!
@BrazenlyLiberal I have a Fi collar for one of my dogs, he’s small enough to squeeze himself through the fence. He started escaping and I finally decided a GPS collar was worth any price when I took him out at 3am, he got out, and didn’t return until about 45 min later.
