@CinnamonGirlE My first thought was Betsy DeVos. Why do Republicans want to destroy education
@JusDucky @CinnamonGirlE
It has a lot to do with fundamentalist Christians -- or that specific brand of republican -- it ties in with them not wanting their children taught evolution.
In the bible belt, there are people who 100% believe that men have one fewer rib than women, that humans walked the earth with dinosaurs, and the story of Noah and the flood was literal and factual. They believe this.
And public education teaches differently.
Plus, it costs money too and is desegregated.
In my experience, they can sometimes be decent, family-oriented types of people, but badly misguided. They're terribly, terribly indoctrinated. And...They've gleefully gotten in bed with billionaires who would love to bring back child labor and who are motivated mainly by profit and greed.
@JusDucky @CinnamonGirlE
And then throw in the fact that public school might mean your child meets people of other races or religions, learn about evolution, and potentially do something other than get married and have children, and it just terrifies them. It's very sad, and very, very dangerous.
@janallmac @JusDucky @CinnamonGirlE The wealthy want to limit education to their scions. They want a permanent destitute underclass to guarantee the success of their progeny. They will happily use christianists to get what they want.
@Boyceaz @janallmac @CinnamonGirlE And the christianists will use whatever means at their disposal to get what THEY want, like zero abortions, contract marriage, no gays, no separation of church and state as long as it is only their church, etc. Beware of Mike Johnson. Dems should not be quick to help this guy retain his speakership. He is one seat away from the oval office after VP Harris.
