On this day in 1932, there were similar sentiments echoed in institutions and businesses alike. Antifaschistiche Aktion was founded in Berlin under the leadership of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD).

Many ' movements' have appeared to represent one ideal, yet ultimately served another.

We must always be vigilant.

Tomorrow is not promised.
Equity isn't guaranteed.
The majority must continually reinvest their shares as to guarantee a wider, more holistic representation for all.

The vanguard of the people is never an armed force, but instead its incumbent virtues.

Activist and advocacy are anathema to convention. When we only entertain the societal paradigm of these actions (or state of being), we severely limit our ability to engage therein.

Real rebellion looks different to everyone, and that's the beauty of it; it cannot be predicted, it cannot be controlled, and it cannot be stopped.

Expressing oneself, in times of great conformity and revisionism, is not only 'truly living,' but it is allowing others the same freedoms.

The Belgian town where families take in people with psychiatric conditions

Photojournalist Ilvy Njiokiktjien was granted rare access to document the lives of boarders and their foster families in Geel, which has a remarkable, centuries-old tradition of altruistic psychiatric care

It is much the same with trans folks. We often are underemployed, have less access to health care, and other pressures leads to mental health issues like Anxiety and depression.

However, with awareness there is hope. Many of these problems can be, and are already on their way to beings solved by support, and inclusion.

I know there's a lot of push back against those things right now, but that's only happening because so many people are pushing forward.

I wrote about Sudan 3 weeks ago, around its one-year-anniversary of brutal civil conflict. (If anyone wants access to that historical explainer, let me know.)

The crux of that piece, as with the one I wrote on Tigray two years ago, was reflecting on the work we can do even when we can't directly push for change.

The lesson from Sudan, where civic protests first toppled a dictator, is to *never* let militaries control a country's path to more democratic futures.

Well that explains the screaming inside my own, I guess!

Seriously, though--

That's super kind to say, but it also hits on something I always watch out for:

When you write in a more holistic way like this, it's easy to think you're actually able to step outside the system.

Many writers put on airs because they think they're "rising above the madding crowd" with their words--but none of us can. Best we can do is try to describe the whole from within.

(And screw up. And try again. 🤞🏻)
