So I'm at the Hertz rental car place at JFK at 12:30am, there's one dude working & it's pretty much a DMV-level of hassle and arbitrary requirements.

OF COURSE they don't have the car I reserved. But I'm trying to use their web app check-in to "skip the line" and that thing won't just upgrade you to whatever they do have available, which is what a human person would do.

The web app wants to upsell me to a different vehicle for $$. The choices they give me include:

- a chevy subdivision (aka the exxon valdez) for $40 extra per day
- a tesla model 3 for $15./day
- some other humongous Kia or whatever for $50/day
- a chevy bolt EV for $35/day.

Long story short--I'm paying an extra $20/day to avoid the stigma of driving a tesla.

Welcome to NYC!

Sorry you are being hassled by corporate husslers in my home town. Hope the rest of your visit goes smoothly.

Travelers tip: If you're driving in NYC there's a lot less parking spots everywhere. People take over 30 min looking for a parking spot and often pay high fees to park in a parking garage.

Good luck!
