Speaker requires 218 votes. Not enough dems to get Jeffries there. Will require a few GOP to cross aisle to vote for Jeffries and doubt that will happen.
This is going to be a real circus, and I'm going to love watching it. πΏ π

@BrazenlyLiberal
No problem. π
Again, going to enjoy this circus and watch the clowns do their thing.
Now... if 4 or 5 Republicans meet with the Dem caucus & they can agree on a speaker... it shuts down McCarthy and the GQP crazies. Doesn't even have to be a member of Congress.
Wouldn't that be a hoot? π€£
@Bliss
@Maude @BrazenlyLiberal
McCarthy got elected GOP leader with a vote of 188-31.
No progressive is going to go along with a GOP deal for someone from the outside. that would only unite gop and leave dems weaker than they already are.
GOP will elect McCarthy but they are going to have a hard time passing legislation.
Actually @Maude
it's a simple majority vote of all those present not 218. If McCarthy isn't elected I believe it will be the 6th time since 1900 that a minority party would lead the house.
But believe me. Just because you don't hear the squabbles on the Dem side doesn't mean they don't exist, they do. so C-Span will be very busy on Jan 3rd.
@Bliss
Let's see what happens. π
@BrazenlyLiberal
@Bliss
As minority leader, yep, only a majority vote needed.
But for Speaker of the House, it's going to take 218.
