What a cool band. They needed to move from London to Los Angeles because they sound like they were from the scene that included The Dream Syndicate.

Good morning. ☕️

Wow, this one brought me back. Another great one I grew up on, thanks to my father.

My dad could've given me toys every day of the week, but nothing would have compared to giving me the gift of loving and appreciating music (and books).

Trey retweeted a Tom Petty song, which brings me to a story about winning the rock n roll lottery

The Heartbreakers' 1st album was a flop. But, it so good that 2 years after its release it made Gold status.

Note, I remember hearing the above song so many times on the radio in the early 80's that it didn't seem like it was released 1976.

@Bix Yes, after they really broke, it really made me sad when he died, not that I was such a huge fan, just that he seemed like such a nice guy. I still listen to his old shows on SiriusXM, he was born to be a DJ.

@Charles_Hawtrey
CH, I love The Byrds & I'm a fan of TP / Mike Campbell.

@Bix Oh yeah, I didn't mean that I wasn't a fan, also love the Byrds. Right now I'm listening to a cassette of the Vanilla Fudge. Love Bogert and Appice together, monster rhythm section.

@Charles_Hawtrey Also, I like Bogert's voice, he has a nice sounded tenor.

@Bix Yes and he was a MONSTER bass player, one of my heroes.

Speaking of Tom Petty... I know I posted this video not too long ago, but it's too beautiful not to post again. I admit, it brought tears to my eyes. I love how Dolly honors his memory by touching the items he wore.

As someone from 80 miles south of where Petty grew up and who -- as a bratty child -- purposefully watched PBS documentaries/BBC crossovers to rid myself of any remnant of said twang...I resemble this remark. 😆

YES it's a pretty melody. 🤓

Well, it was kind of cold that night

Yeah, she could hear the cars roll by

Don't believe the "UF student jumping from Beatty Towers" bullshit -- Floridians love to whisper this bunk to each other in cow pastures and behind 7-11s. I should know...I did. 😜

Heh, I wish. I stopped listening to my fellow Flurduh man AFTER the "Let Me Up" album, circa '87.

It is my distasteful opinion that EVERYTHING he did after that was lame. Except for that one tune, "Should've know better"?

😮 🤷‍♂️ 🤓

@InUnfunky @Bix

There was some stuff in the mid/late 80s I don't like but I thought he came back pretty strong in Hypnotic Eye and Mojo.

my 2¢

You are wrong.
I love this 1996 soundtrack that they made with Rick Rubin.

and it was Rick Rubin that did that very nice set of 5 LPs with Johnny Cash, the 2nd featuring most of the Heartbreakers as the backing band

All great discs,
I look for discs that Rubin produces - even bands that he singed like this one:

When I lived there I fought hard to keep my Boston accent. I got teased sometimes but didn't care. I was wicked proud of where I came from.

One of Tom letting us all know that we dont know how it feels to be him. So let's get to the point . . . 💙

All you TPHB megafans are gonna unfollow me when I tell you that I had tix to see them (with Joe Walsh, even!) in Hartford (7/14/17) but didn’t (sold the tix) cuz I checked out earlier setlists. 😱😏🤷🏻‍♂️

@InUnfunky

They got mary jane and free fallin out of the way at least

🎶 😎 🎶

We saw them in 1979 and it was a really good show in a really good theater

[Fabulous Poodles opened]

@tgraph52

In the ‘80s I had few chances to see them — between Gainesville, Tampa, the infamous show with the Replacements opening in Orlando — probably with a setlist more to my snooty liking. Oh well, add it to my “missed” list.

@InUnfunky

What I always liked about TP & the Heartbreakers was that no matter the level of fame and all that they achieved, they always felt like just a band playing music cuz it's so damn fun.

Plus Petty is a helliva song writer.

@CinnamonGirlE @Bix @JoyfullyDazed @CanisPundit @UmbaSaffire @Mfieck @Bobk37

Lol, no!

You see that setlist? 😱🤣

But still…shoulda seen him in FL in the ‘80s when I had the chance.

Bixie’s pleased this older tune is from “The Last DJ.” 😎

youtu.be/a-rDZILYs2o

@CinnamonGirlE @Bix @JoyfullyDazed @CanisPundit @UmbaSaffire @Mfieck @Bobk37

See, the reason that I didn’t go see Petty in the ‘90s (and thereafter) was that I was blowing all my tix $ on “alternative music.” 🤣

And prog. For example, this too on-the-nose joke about “dinosaurs.” (Bruford releases pro-shot video now? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤓)

This achieves peak Bixtasm levels of accuracy and humor.

I was, like, SOOO EXCITED the night before this cd (4/23/91) came out I could not sleep and was waiting at the record store when the doors opened.

True story. 🤓

Hey Bixie —

Why does Gordon want me to go see his tantric ass with the FL Orchestra (at Mahaffey, where I saw Crim)? Haven’t I already given him enough? Do you think he’ll do “Still My Beating Heart” or the Gil Evans version of “Little Wing”? Maybe Frank’s “Idiot Bastard Son”?

Second show added! 😱😏
