@Armchaircouch The short version?

Republicans are spineless cowards.

@kel @Armchaircouch That's kinda the long version too. The repubs refused to convict him in the senate, due to overwhelming cowardice and cult worship.

@Armchaircouch

Sure: Republicans held enough seats in the Senate that getting a two-thirds majority in favor of conviction was never a real possibility.

Thank you! That is what I thought, I just needed someone else to give me a different perspective outside of my own, @mcfate

@Armchaircouch

McConnell literally announced before one of the Senate trials that they weren't going to convict him.

It's not a court.

@Armchaircouch Easy. The Senate was controlled by craven Republicans (pardon the redundancy). He could have shot a nun on 5th Avenue and those stooges would have let him off.

@ImagineThat @Armchaircouch this โ˜๏ธ . I would add "corrrupt" to the description of the republicans in question.

That goes for both impeachments.

@Armchaircouch
"impeachment" is, basically, "accusation"...which for a president is a big deal in itself, but during impeachment the "accusations" are brought forth and either proven true or not, the Senate then votes to decide if the House has proven there were high crimes and/or misdemeanors that occurred, THEN there's another vote to sanction or remove them from office, the senate was republican majority, so regardless of trial they voted to acquit him of the "accusations".

@Armchaircouch
Because the Senate was in control of Republicans, the impeachment was a useless action, for the most part...the process would show the American people the process, which is nice for civic knowledge overall, but the idea from a strategic standpoint to impeach him was something personally thought would be a waste of time, and, when he was acquitted (the Repub Senate was never gonna convict), it would dash the hopes of Americans who knew he committed crimes but no justice was coming

@Armchaircouch
1. republicans are assholes who will not accept responsibility for anything
2. republicans are deadly afraid of "the base". They made a monster and now are afraid of the monster eating them
3. republicans actually said that they would not impeach for Jan 6 since Drumph was voted out of office and all impeachment and trial would do is get his fat orange ass out of the WH
