I just saw the report that Chris Licht is out at CNN. Good.
Here's a really excellent (if a bit long) article from the The Atlantic that gives a lot of insight into Licht and the disastrous town hall with He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named.
@Apocryphiliac: That said, Zaslav didn't help him.
Zaslav doesn't help anyone but Zaslav, and he doesn't care who he destroys to help Zaslav.
Read that Atlantic article a couple of days ago; it's really worth your time.
Hard to see how Licht could have held on given the conditions that the author described. Sounds like it was bad to begin with and then got worse.
@ChelseaGirl429 He definitely took the wrong approach from the outset. It was always going to be an uphill battle, and then he made such large missteps at every point along the way.
Although I had to take bathroom breaks to get through this lengthy article, it succinctly reports the state of CNN, Licht and the cataclysmic outcome of trump’s Town Hall.
As long as I live, I will never understand why seasoned networks/journalists think 45 is capable of speaking Truth.
As long as networks pander to ratings/profit, Truth will never again be the mission of journalism.
Vaya con dios Chris Licht.
@LnzyHou I'm not sure if he really believed the line he was selling, or if what Robert Reich has implied about his being a stooge for the Right (specifically multi-billionaire John Malone) is true. Maybe a bit of both.
@Apocryphiliac: He wasn't and isn't just a dumbass. He's six or eight entire dumbasses. Back when he took over when I heard the first utterance of "...back to an ideological center" I knew he was going to drive the bus off the cliff. I've seen execs like him before, worked for a few of them. "Fair play" means letting yourself be overrun roughshod in an effort to receive goodwill. It means going into places you're not wanted (or worse) and getting beaten up for no return, just bloodied.
