If you print in all caps, it's legible, but if you start using lower case, you're going to start slurring the letters together anyway. Cursive is a fairly standardized way of doing it legibly, though not everyone groks the legibility goal.

I knew someone whose cursive was beautifully regular, but completely irregular. Every letter looked the same. It was like trying to read atrial flutter waves.

That was my aunt's curse of (cursive, but that speech to text works too) writing backslanted, thin, crammed together, and literally indecipherable to anyone but her... but beautiful.
