Hello all.

Still taking a break, but I thought I'd hop on to regale you with my latest health travesty.

Last night I accidentally bit my tongue. No biggie, right? Wrong. Two hours later my tongue was swollen. Two hours after that I tell my wife to take me to the ER. By then everything in my mouth was swollen. Then I was admitted to a room for observation. They think that my Lisinopril is what caused the swelling from the bite. So, change of BP meds, and I'm going home now after dinner.

@Museek @LiberalLibrarian Yikes. I had no idea that was a potential side effect of Lisinopril. Glad you were seen and meds switched. Hope you're feeling better!

It can happen after years of taking it with no problem. It can be triggered by stuff like dental work. It can turn a cold with a cough into symptoms like whooping cough, too. Whatever area of your airway gets swollen tends to always recur the same way if you keep taking it, too -- people with cough don't get tongue or lip swelling, for instance.

@AlphaCentauri @Museek @LiberalLibrarian Fantastic /s. I get reactive asthma already, so nice to have something else to be nervous about. Seriously, I appreciate the heads-up.

@Notokay Yep, I was on it for 5 years, and then BAM. Now, this only happens to 1% of users. But that's enough of a risk. @AlphaCentauri @Museek

Nobody knows the cause. It's not really related to asthma or allergies.

The drugs called "ARBS" (valsartan, telmisartan, losartan, etc.) have the same benefits, don't do the sudden swelling thing, and are all generic and inexpensive now, so not so many people get started on lisinopril.

@AlphaCentauri @LiberalLibrarian @Museek That's very interesting and good to know. I have been on lisinopril for two years at this point. I will ask my doctor.
