Katherine Stewart in NYT on why the Christian Right loves a despot like Trump...
This isn’t the religious right we thought we knew. The Christian nationalist movement today is authoritarian, paranoid and patriarchal at its core. They’re making a direct attack on democracy itself.
They want it all. And in Mr. Trump, they have found a man who does not merely serve their cause, but also satisfies their craving for a certain kind of political leadership.
@Madken65 He’s their mindless rubber stamp. EO. EO. EO. EO. that’s presidenting?!
@Kitty62862 Had to think for a minute on EO, but I got it...
Remembering when Executive Overreach was a problem for the GOP, but that was Obama's fault I'm told...
@Kitty62862 @Madken65
When you read English history and the carnage that resulted when the country lunged back and forth among Roman Catholicism, Anglicism and Congregationalism, it's hard to believe they couldn't just leave people to worship in peace.
But they had no experience of a separation between church and state, and they couldn't imagine being another religion without being treasonous.
And the so-called Christian Right (which is neither) wants to go back to that.
