Grid-scale (discussed herein) requires very deep drilling to access radiant heat from the mantle. Home geothermal (or ) uses solar energy stored in shallow earth (10-1000 feet). <politico.com/news/2023/01/01/r>

House just went thumbs up on the Omnibus Bill. 9% bump in investments in and other areas!

May your coffee kick in before reality does! #1899

I see that we have another Elon tantrum-inspired bump in new members. New folks! Welcome! The key here is use hashtags properly!

It appears @Elonjet is suspended now on the birdbox. So much for free speech absolutism. Anyone know how to do this on CoSo? It would be good to track the exhaust waste from his private jet...

Burying the lead: Of 1200 possible environmental futures, only a few dozen result in a world similar to what we have now. Those all require rapid electrification and huge R&D investment in Carbon Capture & storage technology. Article is gifted... no paywall. <wapo.st/3FfuR5a>

This is worth knowing about... cheap, rapid recharge batteries made with aluminum and sulfur electrode with a molten salt electrolyte are on the horizon for home and transport energy storage at 1/6th the production cost of existing batteries. <news.mit.edu/2022/aluminum-sul>

As I understand it, the new rules being considered are intended to incentivize an uptake in storage along with solar. That is what I have, but it's expensive, and many folks who would have made the plunge into solar will not do so under these new regs.

I just finished building some built-in shelving for a buddy to store his record collection. Features include black iron pipe and walnut cleat shelf supports cord management pass-throughs from the top of the shelves to the available knee-high socket.

I turned the ugly duct(ling) into a functional banquette bench. I built solid frames screwed into studs and flooring, built in an overhang, hand-stained birch seating and trim. I had to relocate two receptacles and patch a few holes my 13 yo has made over the last year. I’ll do final touch-ups tomorrow, but happy with the outcome.

The geothermal install we just completed left some exposed ductwork, as we had to retrofit forced air to the second floor. Here is part of a second floor bedroom that feeds air across the upstairs.

Today's job: Start to move this pile to it's new home... ugh!

Did anyone else watch Karl Rove make a fool of himself last night on Fox? At the start ion the night he was certain of a red wave, but as things began to turn, he continued to double down on the red wave, even when the hosts/talking heads were clearly unable to see it. Even at 2AM he was still prognosticating 20+ GOP seat gain in the house.

All done! Roof, purlins, rafters and trim. Tomorrow the real work starts as I move a huge pile of wood into neat stacks.
