As I understand it, the new rules being considered are intended to incentivize an uptake in storage along with solar. That is what I have, but it's expensive, and many folks who would have made the plunge into solar will not do so under these new regs.

I just finished building some built-in shelving for a buddy to store his record collection. Features include black iron pipe and walnut cleat shelf supports cord management pass-throughs from the top of the shelves to the available knee-high socket.

I turned the ugly duct(ling) into a functional banquette bench. I built solid frames screwed into studs and flooring, built in an overhang, hand-stained birch seating and trim. I had to relocate two receptacles and patch a few holes my 13 yo has made over the last year. I’ll do final touch-ups tomorrow, but happy with the outcome.

The geothermal install we just completed left some exposed ductwork, as we had to retrofit forced air to the second floor. Here is part of a second floor bedroom that feeds air across the upstairs.

Today's job: Start to move this pile to it's new home... ugh!

All done! Roof, purlins, rafters and trim. Tomorrow the real work starts as I move a huge pile of wood into neat stacks.

Progress! I should finish tomorrow, weather permitting. This will be a small part of my effort to make a net zero home out of a 1996 cape we bought last summer.

So now it looks like a platform. What am I going to put there?

My next project has begun... This one is related to some tree removal I did last year to clear a solar corridor our electricity generation. More as it develops!

I made drawer pulls out of Oyster shells. I live in an area where oysters are a big part of the local economy. So we eat lots of oysters.

Good morning CoSo. I put up a solar array, and we turned it on for the first time yesterday around 10:30 AM. In the six hours it was getting sunlight it met my house's needs, for the day, the following night with extra cached in battery or on grid. Looking forward to my first full day of energy independence!

I wish I could bring all 5000 of my twerps with me. It was a good bunch of hoopy froods, and not a bot in the bunch.
