A good description of my : I'm a "radical centrist." Rubin describes it very well, and cites its value in an age where the center has been collapsing not just in the US but worldwide, under assault from both far leftists and authoritarian populists.

@walterbays

Fuck that. The GOP has been pulling that bullshit with Dems for decades. This "meet us in the middle" crap only allows them to drag the "center" further to the right, so now we're in a place where centrists can say "well, at least I didn't vote for an actual Nazi!" with deluded pride, while the GOP gleefully strips away freedoms and corrupts the entire system from the inside.

There are people who are dying because centrists refuse to rock the boat.

@Ubiety Rubin forcefully makes the case that centrism does NOT mean meet everyone halfway. E.g. if one side lies all the time, it's not a good compromise to allow lies half the time. If one side wants to overthrow the government in a violent coup, it's not a good compromise to halfway overthrow the government and hang the VP just a little bit.

I'd be interested in what you think if you have time to read her op-ed.
