@Jeber This is my hometown, and yes, it is that ass-backwards pretty much statewide. Democrats rarely even run for office in my area.
@Pam4Aruba You'll definitely like it then.
What did baklava ever do to you? 😂
@Pam4Aruba Oh, it's great. So savory. I recommend some kofta, baba ganoush, or hawawshi if you can find it, with baklava for dessert.
@Rickbflony I'll heed your warning...
@WestofMars I'd love to see the look on the shoemaker's face when I hand them my pair of worn out $30 Nautica sneakers.
You're right. A democratic oligarchy is essentially letting us choose who gets to be paid for ripping us off. The few with good intentions are constantly outnumbered.
Used to, one could rely on the thought of "Well, if it really gets bad, the people will have to band together to fix it."
But with how our military tech has progressed, along with some very effective propagandizing, I don't see the folks in that situation putting up a very good fight anymore.
We're not, now.
@Jeber Agreed, and it really bothers me. We'd all have to collectively adopt the barter system or something similarly extreme.
How on Earth do we combat giant corporations and crooked politicians that only see humanity as just another natural resource to exploit?
What angle is there on preventing a full-blown dystopia for our descendants?
As technology advances and the gap between the richest and poorest widens, I'm seeing nothing but a very dark societal endgame.
@CdnChrisCo I'd say! One day I hope to see them with my own eyes.
@Pam4Aruba Ha, it's all good. 👍🏻
@Pam4Aruba You got lucky! Apparently my body has decided that 5 hours of sleep is just enough to keep me from getting cozy again.
@Patti1120 It's very tempting...
