To paraphrase Bill Hicks and likely a bunch of philosophers:
Society is shaped by fear and love.
Fear turns to anger, and bigotry; fear is pessimism, cynicism, and deceit. Fear of new ideas, fear of lost traditions, fear of power structures changing... Fear is the tree we've watered and shaded ourselves under far too long.
Love is graceful action despite our fears. Love is faith that our good nature can prevail. Love is the strength of any community, and a guiding light for the individual.
