You made me so nostalgic about my lost-to-frost Lemon Tree that I've prepared a few seeds π€ in hopes that at least one will sprout.πΌ π
@tiptoeing
@Krysdammit Good luck - no stabbing this time?
@Krysdammit Best way to do it! The more they dry out, the harder they are to sprout, from my experience.
@Krysdammit Sounds like a great start! Keep us updated as they mature.
@tyote
Have I mentioned what a cheap gardener I am? I experiment and find what works best for me. I purchase what I have to, but if I can use something I already have it makes the project/plant that myuch sweeter.
@Krysdammit Makes ya feel like nothing is going to waste. ππ»
I think lemon seeds like to be in the dark until they actually germinate, then add some good light.
Some seeds (like lettuce) need light to germinate, others need to be kept in the dark. But they all need abundant light once they come up.
@CJLavoie
Ty 4 the advice. Used to order seeds from mail order cataogues in the '70s, 80's and into the 90s. Grew thousands of plants every year from seeds. I know that some need light, some dark, some need for us to simulate winter and go through a cooling period in our fridges. I also worked at a garden center for a time.
1. My kitchen doesn't have a window and is dark 24 hours a day, unless I'm in there cooking.
2. I like to experiment!
3. Feckin' winter βοΈ in βοΈ π¨π¦
4. I'm boredπ
@tyote
It is fun to try new ways. Sorry I missed your part of the Talk on Sunday. Iβm still getting to know people on here.
@CJLavoie
I'm sorry that you missed it as well. We were live and chatting for over 3 hours.
As for my Lemon seeds, there are six of them in the container. I did go on line to find how other ppl start them from seed.
Someone suggested that after the seeds are moistened for a few days, we can carefully peel off the white outer layer. The 3 seeds I managed to peel each have a root. Missing my 3 yr old tree I'd started from a seed lost to coldπ’
@tyote ...used a knife....no stitches required! π
@tyote
I started them 2 days ago and they have plumped up and changed colour already! I'm using one of those clear, plastic take away food containers from my Grocery Deli. π Lined the bottom with a damp folded piece of paper towel, placed my 5 lemon seeds inside and put the lid on. Used a large sewing needle to make a few holes in the lid, of course. It's sitting atop my fridge, where it's nice and warm, and there is light when I'm cooking or doing dishes.
