The fewer people who have access to your card number, the better off you are.
Privacy also keeps bad actors (or YOU!) from trying to use the card tied to (say) amazon.com on arnazon.com.

Anyone looking to rip you off probably isn't running a web site that's running in the red eight months out of a given ten.
