Jared Henderson has a great video on the whole "college students can't read" thing and I agree with many things he is saying about why younger generations can't and don't read.

Reading is something very different from comprehending. We read every single day online, you're reading this now.

People CAN read and they read more text in a day than they probably realize but ... they don't read books for pleasure.

One of the things he brings up is the professors were saying that most students couldn't read a book in a week.

I dunno ... I just feel like there is so much wrong with the education system and that has a lot to do with how people read.

Standardized testing doesn't care about your reading ability ...

I also think there is a lot of audacity and gross privilege coming from people who judge others on how much they read and what they read.

It's a very narrow-minded, oppressive, and elitist thing to do to assume everyone has the same access to books, education, and leisure.

Not to mention the assumption that everyone has the same mental abilities, processing, and capability to allow for tons of pleasure reading.

Not everyone is you.
