#Grotesquerie, in the first 20 minutes, is a perfect example of why Niecy Nash is such an amazing actress ... I don't believe she is undervalued or underappreciated but I do think she's underused. Listening to Niecy talk ... especially when she's given outstanding dialog and allowed to monologue in her own unique style ... it's absolutely mesmerizing and not to be missed.
Ryan Murphy is letting Niecy SHINE and I mean really, really shine. The screen is filled with her presence, her captivating style and amazing voice. She's allowed to monologue quietly, beautifully, fully and just get lost in these scenes so epically. I love this kind of shooting and staging ... the direction is minimal and it just allows you to savor everything she's about. She is the star. She is the focus. Everything is in service to her acting and her character. Brilliant in every way.
That's one thing I noticed about stories shot in Sweden or Denmark. They really know lighting in Scandinavia.
Shots like this. Lighting like this. Moods like this. Brilliant and beautiful. #Grotesquerie should be on your radar if you like Niecy ... but even if you can just appreciate quality directing and cinematography it's worth your time.
